Oxford has many great restaurants. Here are some of our favorites:

SoLa

(eclectic, creative food, some Asian-inspired dishes)

City Grocery

(James Beard-winning classic Southern/American food)

Jinsei

(sushi and other Japanese cuisine, great atmosphere)

Good Day Cafe

(sandwiches and salads at lunch, elevated dishes at dinner, in a delightfully converted former auto mechanic shop)

St. Leo

(Italian, fancy pizzas and pastas)

Tarasque

(Italian, pastas and eclectic salads and sides. BYOB [there’s a great wine and liquor store right next door.])

Volta Taverna

(Greek/Mediterranean food with outdoor seating, famous Margaritas and Mojitos)

Ajax Diner

(Oxford classic, Southern and soul food)

Proud Larry’s

(sandwiches, salads, and pizzas – also Oxford’s famed local music venue by night)

The Blind Pig Pub

(English-style pub with amazing sandwiches and a huge selection of beers)

El Carreton 2

(traditional Mexican spot with amazing tacos, tortas, and more)

Handy Andy

(the best burger on the planet at an old-school BBQ joint)

Bars

We are a college town, so there are many, many bars. For grown folks, we recommend these:

City Grocery

(the bar is upstairs, above the restaurant. An Oxford classic for half a century)

The Blind Pig Pub

(this is where service industry folks hang out after their shifts. Chill vibe and you’ll meet really cool people. Two pool tables and darts available!)

Ajax Diner

(another classic. Recently reopened for late night bar service for the first time since the pandemic.)

Boure

(a bigger spot than the rest – if you can’t find an open balcony elsewhere, you may be able to find a spot here to watch the people on the square below.)

Culture

Southside Gallery

(a lovely two-story art gallery right on the square, about a block from the wedding venue)

University of Mississippi Museum

(a cool museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Art, folklore, and a very cool permanent exhibit of 19th century scientific instruments)

Square Books

(a half-century old book store on the square. Knowledgeable employees and an amazing atmosphere. There are also three other stores within a block—Square Books Jr. for kids, Off-Square Books for odds and ends, and Rare Square Books for collectors’ items)

The End of All Music

(one of the best record stores in America. Don’t believe us? Check with The New Yorker)

Rowan Oak

(the famous home of our most famous author, William Faulkner. The house is owned by the University and is only $5 to tour.)
